Hagar began operations in 1994. Some 200 staff now work at Hagar. Over 100,000 women and children have been touched by Hagar, and its three businesses have created more than 200 jobs. Following completion of their vocational training, the women are given the opportunity to seek employment in one of Hagar's business ventures, from manufacturing beautiful silk handbags and home accessories at Hagar Design, to producing nutritious soy milk in Hagar's Soya factory, or cooking meals for canteens at well-known establishments such as the U.S. Embassy and the Hotel Intercontinental, through Hagar Catering.Specializing in products made of hand woven silk, the exquisite crafting and attention to detail is evident in each facet of Hagar Design merchandise. Production has also expanded to incorporate items made of other materials, including the introduction of the Recycled Collection, featuring lifestyle handbags and accessories made from recycled rice bags.Hagar Design is recognized by the International Fair Trade Association as a Fair Trade Organization.
